Mike Cagalj graduated from the University of Arizona in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Named to Who’s Who in America Colleges and Universities, he was Senior Class President, President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and a member of Bobcats.
The University of Arizona has benefited immeasurably from Mike’s dedication and service. He was on the San Diego Alumni Club Board of Directors for more than 20 years, serving as president in 1985 and 1995. In addition, he has held the most club chairmanships. By creating and managing an awards program for benefactors, Mike also increased donations to the scholarship fund.
Mike was a member of the Arizona Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1986 to 1992. In addition, he was instrumental in the campaign to build the new Kappa Sigma Fraternity house that opened in August 1995 and served on the Housing Corporation Board for 15 years.
After serving in the United States Navy, Mike was licensed as a certified public accountant, securities broker, and real estate broker. The bulk of his business careers was with Atlas Hotels, headquartered in San Diego, where he was worked for 22 years as vice president and chief financial officer. Mike served as president of the San Diego chapters of the Financial Executives Institute and the Executives Association.
Mike served as Grand Master as an undergrad and has been previously recognized in the Gamma-Rho Hall of Fame and as Man of the Year.
The Michael Cagalj Leadership Scholarship Award is awarded to the active who has shown the greatest leadership on campus and/or in the chapter, while carrying a GPA of 3.00 or higher.
