Andy McEldowney ‘83

Jonathon Andrew McEldowney ‘83, better known as Andy, graduated from the University of Arizona in 1987 with a Business degree. Now retired after numerous years of success in the insurance industry, he lives in Tucson, Arizona with his wife of 35 years– Kerry– and enjoys spending time with his three childrenand grandson.

Andy began his career at Allstate Agency, soon becoming a multi-year recipient of the Honor Ring and National Champions awards. After twelve years of accolades at Allstate, he became an Executive PharmaceuticalRepresentative for GlaxoSmithKline. “With GSK I launched eight new brands, exceeding incentive goals for all products, was selected to be an Associate Product Trainer, and servedon the Field Advisory Board,” Andy says of this period of his career, which lasted for ten years before he moved to Farm BureauFinancial Services as an Insurance Agent.

Unsurprisingly, Andy was top of his class and Rookie of the Year for Farm Bureau, winning the Heritage, Blue Vase, and Pace Setter awards before realizing he ‘wasn’t meant to be a corporate employee.’ So, he founded Tucson Insurance Associates, where he found himself better able to care for his customers and earn more for his efforts. He didn’t dread the thought of going to work one single day before he retired in 2021.

Andy held multiple positions in Gamma-Rho serving as President, Vice President, and Treasurer while remaining incredibly active in the university’s honorary system. A proud member of Primus, Sophos, and Chain Gang, he was an RA in Apache Hall and Director of Advertising for Spring Fling.

Andy’s involvement didn’t end after his undergraduate years, however. Previously holding the roles of Alumni Advisor and Treasurer, he is now the President of Gamma-Rho’s House Corp organization. “To be honest, Kappa Sigma has been mostly a social thing for me, but I mean the longterm friendships that I have developed, not just the college parties,” says Andy of the chapter’s importance to him, “To this day, my wife Kerry and I meet socially with brothers and their spouses frequently. I think I also developed some leadership skills– and certainly some skills in herding cats.”
